Bobby Leigh (Moksha Music founder) has a knack for discovering new recording artists.
Leigh recalls finding a young woman busking on the streets, near Height and Ashbury in San Francisco. Amazed by the young woman's voice, he asked if they could chat? The young woman replied, "If you buy me a beer." It was 10:00 AM on a Sunday. & He compiled, and within two months, that woman had a new band and was signed to a record deal with the brand new RAP label Interscope from an old-time friend Jimmy Iovine.
That artist sold 11 million records within nine months.
Leigh clocks over thirty years in the music and entertainment business in the roles of producer and management teams, including working with such major rock'n'roll legends such as AEROSMITH, 4 NON BLONDES, GUNS-N-ROSES, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS, THE SPECIALS, SOCIAL DISTORTION, THE OFFSPRING, and STAIND.
As an actor, Bobby landed several roles: playing Larry Miller's henchman "Lefty" for Sony Pictures Television/WB sitcom "The Mayor", playing Kate Hudson's inmate boyfriend "Lee"; for Touchstone Television/ABC's "That Was Then". A guest-starring/recurring role on the ABC/Family Pilot "East of Normal, West of Weird". Other notable acting roles Leigh is also credited on "LONDON FIELDS" as Chu, "PIRATES of the CARIBBEAN: Dead Men Tell No Tales", as Jonny Bonn, "CREATURES of WHITECHAPEL" as Doshi, “British Style” for the BBC, "CRUEL", "DRACULA UNTOLD" as Jacqune, "GOLGOTHA", "SHERLOCK HOLMES", "SWEENY TODD", "CHILDLIKE VIOLENCE" as well as many other independent films.
Leigh served as a producer on "THE GIFT…At Risk" starring Vince Vaughn and Randy Travis, which debuted at the Monaco Film Festival. Bobby was also a producer on the Award-Winning feature film "STRIPPED DOWN" starring Ian Ziering (“Beverly Hills 90210” and “Dancing with the Stars,”) The film, which took four awards at the Silver Lake Film Festival, including “Outstanding Achievement in Production”, has been sold to twelve European markets and had its American theatrical release in May 2009.
Bobby also produced "THE GUITAR PLAYER’S GIRLFRIEND", winner of the “Los Angeles Screenwriting Competition sponsored by KODAK and PANAVISION” in 2006. The film has played numerous film festivals including Cannes “Festival de Cannes” 2007.
With Filmmakers Alliance, Leigh produced "PLUS or MINUS: A Few Things I Thought I Should Consider" a film that deals with teen pregnancy, with director and long-time friend Amanda Swikow.
Leigh also directed the family film "IT’S ALL AN ILLUSION" for Christopher Coppola’s Project Access Hollywood. The film which took 3rd place in the Best Picture category is currently on the festival circuit. Bobby also produced the award-winning film "DADA" directed by close friend Bradley Jones that also was the winner of the Los Angeles Screenwriting Competition sponsored by KODAK and PANAVISION” in 2007.
Bobby directed the documentary feature film "HOLODOMOR", an expose on the Ukrainian genocide perpetrated by Joseph Stalin. The 93-minute feature film won the, “Best Documentary” award at the Hoover Dam Film Festival, and was nominated for “Best Documentary Film” at the British Film Festival, and also took home the Grand Jury Award for Best Feature for most Outstanding Movie” at the Monaco Charity Film Festival.
Leigh also served as a producer on the LIONS GATE Horror film "EXPERIMENT IN TORTURE". Leigh also served as a producer or co-producer on "DRACULA UNTOLD", "GOLGOTHA", "GIRLS GONE DEAD", “VH1 Rock Honors,” “RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS; Otherside.”
Bobby recently directed and produced a Reality TV Pilot called “The RocDocs of Orange County” about Orthopedic Surgeons that treat Celebrity Sports Stars. Other film credits include "INFIDELITY", "CHILDREN IN VIOLENCE", "BURNING MAN", "BROKEN" and "BUTTERFLY SKY".
Leigh also served as a producer for three “MTV Video Music Awards” (VMA's) Television shows, two in New York City and one in Dublin (Euro VMA's).
Bobby also produced “VISIONFEST/The Vision Awards” for Filmmakers Alliance and the Directors Guild of America for 4 years in a row. Vision Award honorees include such renowned filmmakers as Mike Figgis, Terry Gilliam, Wim Wenders, Allison Anders, Alexander Payne, David O’Russell, Werner Herzog, Michael and Mark Polish, and Laura Dern.
Bobby Leigh is an active member of the P.G.A. (Producers Guild of America,) the PRODUCERS NETWORK at the Festival de Cannes and Marche du Film (only 500 producers selected world-wide,) S.A.G./A.F.T.R.A. (Screen Actors Guild/American Federation of Television and Radio Artists,) FIND (Film Independent,) CAA (Creative Actors Alliance,) NALIP (National Association of Latino Independent Producers,) IP (Independent Producers,) IFF (International Film Finance,) IDA (International Documentary Association) and Filmmaker's Alliance.
